Color FULL-SIZE FACSIMILE. Facsimile & commentary volume (by Franz Grasberger, preface by Wolfgang Schneiderhan, 56 pp., 29 ills., orig. cloth) together with recording of W. Schneiderhan with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Eugen Jochum and modern score as special edition of the Beethoven edition III/4 edited by Shin Augustinus Kojima. 1979. Gilt orig. vellum in joint luxury case.

One of the 250 copies of the de luxe edition numbered by hand (total edition 1250 copies) bound in vellum corresponding to the manuscript’s present binding with the addition of record & score. – Printed on finest deckle-edge paper trimmed individually according to the original. – The commentary i. a. on creation, form and character, dedication, first edition and the adaptation as piano concerto.

“ The autograph of Beethoven’s violin concerto is primarily written in an ink which begins to pale; at the same time it is one of the most interesting of Beethoven’s autographs since it not only shows the usual correction during and after the writing, but also the first steps of the revision of the violin part and drafts for an adaptation as piano part …

“ The pale colors of the mainly used ink, pale-brown on yellowish paper, and the later entries in deeper inks, with red chalk and with pencil … (the facsimile) reproduces down to the most delicate shades with such ‘faithfulness’ that one could take even the drafts in pencil for written in pencil indeed … ”
